7.18.10 Scripture References...

Romans 8:31-39 (NKJV)
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isaiah 1:18-19
18 “Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient,
You shall eat the good of the land;

Genesis 39:2-6
2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. 5 So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field. 6 Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate.
Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.

James 1:21
21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Acts 20:32
32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

James 1:22(kjv)
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

The Four Root Causes of Laziness....

There is laziness in all of us. If we leave it unattended it can choke the potential out of our lives. In this blog entry, I break down the 4 root causes of laziness.

1.
Self-Centeredness
We naturally see things from our own point of view. But if we don’t choose to shift our focus to the interest and well being of others we will simply act out in a manner that is mostly gratifying to our own desires and ego.

2.
Arrogance/Conceitedness
“The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.” Proverbs 21:16 (KJV)
Because we often think we are smarter than those around us we act without seeking the advice or council of others. It’s easier to act first and seek advice later.

3.
Ignorance and Irresponsibility (Foolishness)
“I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; and lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.” Proverbs 24:30-34 (KJV)
The cause of laziness is ignorance and irresponsibility. Often it results from the ignorance of the long-term consequences of actions. It’s easier to act out of ignorance than it is to become educated. That’s why the Bible says, “a lazy man will hunger but will starve because he refuses to labor.” We can have so much desire in our lives to be all that God has called us to be, but all it will ever be is a dream because we are unwilling to work.

4.
Laziness Results Into More Laziness
“The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.” Proverbs 20:4 (KJV).
Laziness creates a painful barrier to personal achievement.
“The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns, but the way of the upright is a highway.” Proverbs 15:19 (NKJV)

The way of the transgressor is hard. Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” In ancient Judaism the rabbi classified his yoke as his teaching and instruction. Jesus said, “Take my teaching upon you and learn of me. My teaching is easy and light.” When we follow the teaching of Jesus the way is easier. When we make carnal decisions we go ahead of God’s timing and the way becomes hard. We must be diligent to hear the voice of God and to follow his prompting and the urging to the spirit.
